Economic downturn? Not for this guy

While most of the world watches its pocket, a US-based classic car collector has just splashed out on what has now become the world’s most expensive car.

Taking petrol head-dom to a whole new level, Craig McCaw has just shelled out a cool AU$34 million for a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO. Made for British racing driver Stirling Moss, this beautiful apple-green machine is one of only 39 GTO produced by Ferrari between 1962 and 1964.

And this isn’t the only big money automotive purchase recently. Apparently there’s been a flurry of activity in the classic car market over the past few months. With the increasing popularity of Formula One in Arabic countries, wealthy Arab buyers have entered the market, as have the Chinese. Rare classic cars are, therefore, even harder to find – driving the prices up.

So, spare a thought for these poor souls who have to shell out millions for the ideal car. When all us ordinary Aussies have to do is get a decent accessory to make our vehicle picture-perfect AND multipurpose!
